Each week The CSPH takes a look at a sexual aid that can be so helpful for some people, that it needs to be highlighted. This week we take a look at Sliquid Naturals H2O Lubricant!
How Does It Work?
Sliquid H2O is a water-based lubricant, made for keeping things slick and sliding comfortably during any and all sexytime. This particular brand of lube is unique in that it is 100% vegan and contains no glycerin or parabens, ingredients found in many other lubes that may be irritating to vulva-owners. The minimalist ingredient make-up also means that Sliquid H2O is hypoallergenic and non-toxic, making it extra suitable for people with sensitive skin.
An odorless, flavorless, and colorless lube, Sliquid H2O has a slight “cushiony” texture, created with the addition of plant cellulose as a thickening agent; as opposed to glycerin, which is used in many over-the-counter lubricants. Sliquid claims that the lube’s unique texture mimics your body’s sexual fluids, and indeed, it does not feel oily or slimy on the skin. Rather, as its name implies, it tends to make vulva-users feel gloriously, naturally wet. Additionally, it will not stain clothing or bedding, which means you can get as messy as you want! Use liberally wherever any combination of genitals, toys, and body parts intend to come together, and you’ll be rewarded with a frictionless, slippery good time.
Important Things To Note:
Sliquid H2O is compatible with latex, rubber, silicone, and plastic materials, which means it can be used with any toy or condom. It comes in a clear plastic squeeze bottle with a cap that clicks easily open and closed, marked with the blue Sliquid H2O label, and can also be bought in single-use packets marked with the same cute Sliquid design. While the bottle does say “natural personal lubricant”, and therefore does not hide its purpose, the overall design is chic and simple, making it an unassuming addition to any bedside table.
As with all water-based lubes, Sliquid H2O will gradually become absorbed into the skin over time, and therefore should be reapplied—or “revived”, with either a squirt of regular water or a glob of good old-fashioned saliva—throughout activity if it feels like things are beginning to chafe. Regardless, it is long-lasting enough so that constant reapplication should not be an annoyance or a chore; think of it as a chance to catch your breath and add some sensation play into the game.
When rubbed around for long enough, the lube changes its texture, becoming slightly thicker and more opaquely white in color, though it still won’t leave stains. This can result in an increased tackiness, similar to a créme lube or a mild lotion. However, when rubbed in more, the lube will completely absorb into the body and leave skin feeling moisturized as opposed to sticky. While this occurs with some of Sliquid’s other formulations, such as Sliquid Sassy, Sliquid H2O differs in that the tacky sensation dissipates quickly while the lube remains relatively slick, making it a relatively better choice for those who prefer water-based lubes, but are disappointed with their tendency towards stickiness when compared to their silicone counterparts. The lube is easily cleaned up with a quick water rinse.
Lastly, although Sliquid is marketed as a non-irritating lube, and this is largely the case, some people may still experience irritation with Sliquid lubes as skin sensitivity varies widely from person to person. If you find that you frequently experience adverse reactions to lube, try a spot test on the back of your hand or your thigh before diving right into bed with it.
Overall, Sliquid H2O is a no-frills lubricant that will keep things moving without fuss or fear of irritation. Get ready to slip and slide your way into a rollicking good time.
